Additionally, MeitY stated that “the safe harbour protection under Section 79 of the IT Act will be withdrawn if the notices are not complied with promptly.”

Telegram, X (previously Twitter), and YouTube were given notice by the ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) on Friday to delete child sexual abuse material (CSAM) from their platforms in India.

The notification further highlights the necessity of CSAM’s immediate and complete removal and urges for the execution of proactive measures to take it down.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, minister of state for electronics and IT, has been a strong proponent of eliminating such damaging content from the Indian internet and has made sure that this strategy becomes the ministry’s policy objective.

Additionally, MeitY stated that “the safe harbour protection under Section 79 of the IT Act will be withdrawn if the notices are not complied with promptly.”

Criminal and dangerous content will not be tolerated on the Indian Internet. The ITAct’s ITRules unambiguously state what is expected of intermediaries: they cannot host unlawful or damaging content, such as CSAM, Chandrasekhar stated on Twitter.
