India makes a flying start in Hockey Asia Cup for Junior Men

India led 6-0 at the breather.

Defending champions India made a flying start in the AHF Hockey Men’s Junior Asia Cup Tournament at Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment on Wednesday. India trounced Chinese Taipei 18-0 for its second drubbing of the tournament. Yesterday, Chinese Taipei lost 15-1 to Pakistan.

India’s win, the biggest win of the tournament so far, was masterminded by Araijit Singh Hundal, who notched up a hat-trick in his personal tally of five goals. Another Indian player to accomplish three in-a-row goal feat was Amandeep Singh. Skipper Uttam Singh and his deputy Boby Singh Dhami recorded a brace each.

India led 6-0 at the breather. It went on a scoring spree against a hapless Chinese Taipei defense and added another dozen to make it 18-0.

In another game of the day, Korea beat Uzbekistan 6-1. Kim Minkwon (two) was the main scorer for the Koreans.

Yesterday, in the last game of the day Bangladesh had beaten the hosts Oman 2-0 in an exciting and well-fought match.
