Indian-Origin Family Remains Found in Brampton House Fire

Peel Regional Police say the human remains found following a house fire in Brampton last week are those of three people.

A massive fire incident broke out at an address near Van Scott Drive and McLaughlin Road, North of Sandalwood Parkway, at around 1:30 pm on Thursday. It was later discovered that human remains have been found on the site.

The fire blaze not only damaged the property where it caused but the neighborhood was also damaged before the flames were extinguished. The fire caused havoc to the structural damage due to which an excavator was called in for the inspection.

The Peel Regional Police updated this morning that the human remains have been identified. The deceased have been identified as 51-year-old Rajiv Warikoo, 47 year old Shilpa Kotha and their 16 year old daughter Mahek Warikoo.

Investigators said all three people lived at the home before the fire. “The circumstances surrounding the house fire remains the focus of an active investigation, and anyone with information or video footage (dashcam or otherwise) is urged to contact Homicide detectives,” police said in their release.

The investigation is still being handled by the PRP’s Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau along with the office of the Marshall and the Coroner.
