Indian-origin Male Nurse Extradited to Australia in Connection to 2018 Murder of 24-year-old Woman
An Indian-origin male nurse who allegedly murdered an Australian woman in 2018 has been extradited to Australia and charged with one count of murder. Rajwinder Singh, the man accused, worked in Australia as a nurse and fled the country after allegedly murdering 24-year-old Toyah Cordingley.
In October of 2018, Rajwinder Singh who was working as a nurse in Australia allegedly murdered Toyah Cordingley whose body was found by her father at the beach where she was walking her dog. Singh fled the country shortly after leaving behind his wife and three children. The Australian government put out a reward of $1 million AUD for his arrest.
The accused was arrested in November last year by the Delhi Police. A non-bailable warrant was issued to Singh under the extradition act. Singh has now been extradited to Australia where he has been charged with one count of murder. He will be presented before the Cairns Magistrates Court on Friday.
According to reports, prosecutors told the court that the police had DNA evidence linking Singh to the murder. “Our primary focus has always been ensuring justice for Toyah, her family, and friends without compromising the investigation,” said Detective Inspector Sonia Smith. She was relieved knowing that Queensland police relationships with federal and international counterparts resulted in the extradition.
