ISKCON Temple Authority Dismisses BJP MP Maneka Gandhi’s Charge That It Sells Cows To Butchers |
Desk :
BJP MP Maneka Gandhi has created a controversy with her comment. The human rights activist called ISKCON the country’s “biggest crook” and alleged that they sell cows to butchers in their cowsheds. Hours after the video went viral, ISKCON hit back at Gandhi. The temple authorities termed his claims as false and baseless.
Mrs. Gandhi, a former Union minister and an animal rights activist, has been vocal on social media on animal welfare issues.
“ISKCON is the biggest thug in the country. It maintains cowsheds and gets benefits from the government, including vast tracts of land,” she is heard saying in a video that has gone viral.
Rejecting the allegations, ISKCON National Spokesperson Yudhishtar Govinda Das said the religious organization has been at the forefront of protecting and caring for cows and bulls not only in India but globally. “Cows and bulls are served for their lives, as allegedly not sold to the butcher,” he said.
A statement shared by ISKCON said that ISKCON has pioneered cow protection in many parts of the world where beef is a staple diet. “Mrs. Gandhi is a well-known animal rights activist and well-wisher of ISKCON, so we are surprised by these statements,” the statement said.
