Jalandhar By-poll On May 10

Jalandhar:

The final date for the Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-election has been announced. Voting will be held here on May 10 and counting on May 13. Jalandhar MP seat fell vacant after the sudden death of Congress MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary who died of heart attack on January 14 during the ‘Bharat Joko Yatra’ under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi.

Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday announced poll dates for one parliamentary constituency and four assembly constituencies. During the announcement of Karnataka poll dates, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar announced the polling date for the Jalandhar parliamentary constituency and four assemblies — Jharsuguda (Odisha), Chhanbey (UP), Suar (UP), Sohlong (Meghalaya).

Polling for all the byelections will take place on May 10th and the counting of votes will take place on May 13th, the same day as when the Karnataka assembly election counting is to take place.

With the announcement of bypoll dates by ECI, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) comes into force with immediate effect in the constituencies going for election.

In all polling stations during the byelections, the EC has opted to utilize both EVMs and VVPATs. Sufficient quantities of these machines have been procured and all necessary measures have been implemented to guarantee that the election process runs seamlessly.
