Ludhiana Hospital Hands Over Wrong Body for Cremation, Enraged Family Ransacks Hospital
In a shocking incident in a Ludhiana hospital, the body of a young boy was handed to the wrong family, who then cremated him. When the actual family of the young boy found out, they ransacked the hospital and police had to be called to calm them down.
The body of Ayush Sood, 20, of Peerubanda locality in Salem Tabri was being kept in Civil Hospital’s mortuary in Ludhiana, Punjab. On Wednesday, another family came to the hospital to collect the body of their young boy named Manish but were instead given the body of Ayush. Without checking or even realizing it, they cremated the body of Aysuh thinking it was their son, Manish, on the same day.
The following morning, Ayush’s father Rakesh Sood, and other family members came to the hospital to collect his late son’s body when he discovered what had happened. The family members were enraged and called other relatives who then collectively ransacked the hospital. They went through the mother and child care ward, emergency ward, and even the office of the Senior Medical Officer (SMO). Senior police officials along with a huge force had to be called to calm them down.
“It is being investigated how mortuary officials handed over the body of Ayush to the kin of Manish. We will take action against the officials responsible for this negligence,” said Additional DCP Rupinder Sran. Talking about the family that accidentally cremated the wrong body without checking, the police said they were “shocked at how the family cremated the body of a person who does not belong to them. We are trying to locate that family.”
Video shared by Tribune India shows the family members breaking the glass doors, broken glass on the floors, chairs turned over, and family members grieving and raging outside.
