MAJOR DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS FOR URBAN AREAS OF PUNJAB UNDER SMART CITY MISSION
Chandigarh: Accelerating the growth engine with further investment in infrastructure of the state, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday granted sanction to start major projects in cities and towns of Punjab under Smart City Mission (SCM) to ensure inclusive development.

In a meeting with Local Government Officials, the Chief Minister underscored this move as the need of the hour to provide world class basic infrastructure to people of the state. He said that the objective of SCM is to promote cities that provide core infrastructure and give a decent quality of life to citizens, a clean and sustainable environment through the application of ‘Smart’ solutions.

Reviewing the status of the various projects, the Chief Minister said that meticulous execution is utmost important to meet the demand of the changing world. He said that the motive of the state government is to deliver basic amenities such as sewage, water and sanitation to every man of the state.

The Chief Minister exhorted that these projects will be completed in all respect in the stipulated time frame and any laxity in this regard will not be tolerated at any cost. He said that the strict monitoring of these projects will be ensured and he will regularly review the status of these projects. Bhagwant Singh Mann also stressed on the judicious use of the funds for these projects.

The Chief Minister also asked the officials to conduct concerned agency inspection of the projects to ensure adherence to high quality and safety standards as huge investment has been involved in these projects. Bhagwant Singh Mann also insisted that the department will conduct periodic inspections on the status of the projects and suggest measures, if required, with regard to adherence to norms and quality parameters.
On this occasion Local Government Minister Balkar Singh, Special Principal Secretary to CM Ravi Bhagat and Secretary Local Government Ajoy Sharma were present.
