Manpreet Monica Singh is the First Female Sikh Judge of America

An attorney for 20 years, Monica has worked with various human rights organizations at the local, state and national levels.

Manpreet Monika Singh of Indian origin has become the first female Sikh judge in America.

It was a historic moment for Houston Texas Harris County when Manpreet Monica Singh was sworn in as a judge. The state’s first South Asian judge Ravi Saindil presided over the swearing-in ceremony on Friday.

Manpreet Monika Singh wrote on her social media, “Ma we did it. It is a true honor to represent the people of Harris County as a Sikh Civil Court Judge.”

“Thanks to everyone for making this a historic moment. The day will not be a common occurrence when the judiciary will include innumerable Sikhs and other minorities. I am ready to put my two decades of experience to good use.”

It is significant to mention that about 5 lakh Sikhs live in America and 20 thousand in Houston.

Manpreet Monika Singh was born and raised in Houston. She lives in Bellaire with her husband and two children. An attorney for 20 years, Monica has worked with various human rights organizations at the local, state and national levels.

Monika Singh said, “This is a big deal for me because I represent H-Town. I am very happy for that.”

Judge Ravi Saindil said, “This is a truly great hour for the Sikh community. When they see a person of another color, they realize that there are possibilities for them too. Manpreet not only represents Sikhs but is also an inspiration to women of all hues.”
