According to the Peel Regional Police, about 134 drivers were hit with impaired driving charges in Brampton and Mississauga over the holiday season.
Officers, in their annual impaired driving blitz conducted from November 12 to January 2, checked about 14,000 drivers in the region over the holiday season. Out of them, over 100 were charged with impaired driving charges by the authorities, according to the regional police.
The annual impaired driving blitz included checkpoints, responding to calls as well as traffic stops.
126 of the charges were reportedly for operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, while another eight were for operating vehicles impaired by drugs.
“All motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and arrange for a safe ride home. If you observe or suspect a motorist is driving impaired, call 9-1-1,” said the Peel Regional Police in a statement.
