Most of Southern Ontario placed under winter storm watch, travel may be ‘hazardous’

Most of Southern Ontario is likely to witness a strong winter storm starting late Wednesday and expected to continue overnight into Thursday, according to Environment Canada.

The storm, which would bring snow and ice pellets with it, has caused most of Southern Ontario -from Windsor in the west and Brockville in the east and everywhere in between- to be placed under a winter storm watch by Environment Canada on Tuesday.

Environment Canada cautioned southern Ontarians that the precipitation from the anticipated storm could lead to “hazardous” travel conditions later in the week.

The winter storm watch issued Tuesday could potentially be upgraded to a warning as the storm, the catalyst of which is said to be a low-pressure system from Colorado, USA, moves through the province during the week, and may lead to a “significant” effect on rush hour traffic, Environment Canada cautioned.

“There remains some uncertainty for the exact location, timing, and accumulations of snow and ice pellets,” the weather agency detailed.

“Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight,” Environment Canada added further.
