MP Amritpal Singh’s brother arrested in Punjab’s Phillaur; Ice drug recovered from him
Jalandhar: The Jalandhar rural police on Thursday evening nabbed Harpreet Singh, brother of activist and Member of Parliament from Khadoor Sahib Amritpal Singh from Phillaur and recovered 4 gm of Ice (methamphtamine also known as crystal meth) from him.
So far, three people have been nabbed by the police in the case. They have been identified as Amritpal’s brother Harpreet Singh alias Happy, resident of Jallupur Khera in Khiljian; Lovepreet Singh, resident of Beas; and Sandeep Arora, resident of Hebowal, Ludhaina, who had supplied the narcotics to the duo.
An FIR was registered under Sections 22, 27 and 29 of the NDPS Act at the Phillaur police station on Thursday. Harpreet and Lovepreet were nabbed from a white Creta car on the Phillaur-Amritsar highway.
Jalandhar SSP Ankur Gupta said, “A suspicious car with tinted glasses, parked on the side of the national highway in Phillaur was found and 4 gm Ice was recovered from the duo in the car who were identified as Harpreet Singh and Lovepreet Singh. They had a lighter, a weighing scale and two mobile phones. Upon questioning, they revealed that they had sourced the drugs from Sandeep Arora in Ludhiana for which payment was made through Paytm. Both tested positive for the dope test in the medical report. They had bought the drugs for consumption.”
They were coming from Ludhiana to Amritsar when the police nabbed them, the SSP said. In a detailed search carried out by Phillaur DSP Sarwanjeet Singh, the police also recovered a half-burnt Rs 20 note from Harpreet’s shirt pocket, which was rolled into a pipe. The 4-gm Ice was recovered from another pocket. Two lighters and a digital weighing scale were recovered from Harpreet’s possession. In a purse kept by the driver’s seat, the police recovered silver paper (used to inhale drugs) and lighters.
Harpreet also faces charges in previous cases. He had been arrested in a case concerning seizure of weapons from Shahkot last year, along with his aides, following the crackdown on Amritpal. They would be presented in court and their remand was being obtained, Gupta added.
