Needle Found in Halloween Candy in Mississauga, Police Issues Advisory, Begins Investigation

The 11 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau is investigating after a needle was located in a chocolate bar collected after Halloween trick or treating in Mississauga.

Police believe this chocolate bar is from the neighbourhood south of Mississauga Road between Portway Avenue and Gatley Road. There has only been one incident reported at this time.

Peel Regional Police took to social media on Wednesday morning to warn parents to check their children’s Halloween candy after receiving a report from a parent in Mississauga, Ont. who’d located what was believed to be a sewing needle in theirs.

“Thankfully, no one was injured because it was checked ahead of time,” the post reads.

Police in Toronto have received a single report of a thumbtack discovered in a Halloween collection acquired during trick-or-treating in the vicinity of Culford Road and Lawrence Avenue West. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in this incident.

Law enforcement authorities are urging residents and their children to exercise caution and refrain from consuming any items from their treat bags until each piece of candy has been meticulously examined.

An officer from the Peel Police shared a video on YouTube advising people to be vigilant for signs of tampering, such as rips, tears, holes, or any other alterations to the candy wrappers.

Furthermore, the police service strongly recommends rejecting homemade treats, regardless of their source, as an added safety precaution.
