Passengers Stuck on Canada’s Wonderland Roller Coaster Safely Rescued

Canada's Wonderland acknowledges that various factors can cause rides to halt, with safety being the paramount concern.

Passengers on one of Canada’s Wonderland’s roller coasters experienced a brief delay last week when they were temporarily stuck onboard for approximately 45 minutes. The incident occurred on May 10 at 4:30 p.m. on Flight Deck, formerly known as Top Gun, an inverted, looping coaster that mimics F-14 fighter jet movements. The ride was paused while passengers were situated at the top of the coaster’s lift hill.

According to Grace Peacock, the director of communications for Canada’s Wonderland, the park’s maintenance team promptly assessed the situation, resolved the issue, and safely unloaded the guests by 5:15 p.m. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and Flight Deck resumed its normal operations after the incident.

A TikTok video captured the moment when riders on Flight Deck were stuck at the top of the ride, with their legs dangling and waving to the onlookers below. The train gradually moved forward on the lift hill before continuing along its usual course.

Canada’s Wonderland acknowledges that various factors can cause rides to halt, with safety being the paramount concern. Roller coasters and other attractions may stop abruptly if the control system detects an unexpected condition, in case of inclement weather, or if the ride operator decides to pause the ride, such as when a guest is observed using their phone.

The amusement park emphasizes that all its rides undergo daily inspections conducted by staff members and receive annual inspections by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority to ensure compliance with safety standards.
