Peel Police Crackdown on Reckless Driving: 155 Stunt Drivers Charged, 282 Noisemaker Offenses Issued, 27 Impaired Driving Arrests
Officers investigated 1,119 vehicles and issued 2,127 Provincial Offence Notices.
Illegal street racing and aggressive high-speed driving continue to be a problem on our roads.
Peel Regional Police participated in Project E.R.A.S.E. (Eliminating Racing Activities on Streets Everywhere) program.
The E.R.A.S.E. Program addresses poor and aggressive driver behaviour through education, strategic enforcement, and modifying social behaviour. Street racing is an illegal and dangerous activity that risks the lives of our community members.
From May 1, 2024, to October 1, 2024, officers identified hotspot locations throughout the Region of Peel and targeted those areas as part of the program strategy. During this time, officers investigated 1,119 vehicles and issued 2,127 Provincial Offence Notices. Some of the offences included:
-
155 stunt driving charges,
-
282 Noisemaker tickets,
-
27 Criminal Code charges related to impaired and dangerous driving
“Our residents deserve to feel safe in their communities and on the roads,” said Deputy Chief Marc Andrews. “That is why programs such as E.R.A.S.E. are vital for fostering a culture of safety and accountability. We will continue to listen to our residents and to be steadfast in our response to dangerous driving and illegal street racing activities.”
We remind the public that street racing is illegal and that it endangers the safety of everyone on the road. To ensure safety on our roads, Peel Regional Police will have zero tolerance for dangerous driving behaviours and street racing activities. Our officers remain vigilant twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
Peel Regional Police is committed to road safety as a core policing function. Speeding, aggressive driving, and impaired enforcement are top priorities for our officers and service.
