Peel Police Launches Campaign To Reduce Impaired Driving, Deploys Additional Officers

Although R.I.D.E. checks are conducted yearly, the annual Holiday Season campaign is marked by increased enforcement levels by deploying additional officers.

As part of ongoing and collaborative efforts to reduce impaired driving, Peel Regional Police has launched the annual Holiday Season R.I.D.E. campaign.

Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) is a year-round commitment by Peel Regional Police to educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving. Although R.I.D.E. checks are conducted yearly, the annual Holiday Season campaign is marked by increased enforcement levels by deploying additional officers. These other officers are deployed from all police divisions and Road Safety Services.

Road safety is a shared responsibility. If you consume alcoholic beverages or drugs, do not drive. Ensure that you have a plan to get home by having a designated driver, an alternate place to stay or use public transportation.

“We are proud to partner with MADD Canada as part of our strategy to address impaired driving. Our Holiday Season RIDE program has already checked over 5,000 vehicles and will continue through to early January. Please plan ahead as you enjoy the upcoming festive season. If you suspect someone is driving impaired, call 911. Together, we can Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere!” Nishan Duraiappah, Peel Regional Police Chief.
