Plane that went missing in Northern Ontario found, no survivors

A Civil Aviation Search and Rescue Association (CASARA) aircraft spotted the commercial plane with two people aboard that went missing in a remote area of northern Ontario on February 28 about south of Chaucer Lake, Ontario, at about 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

At around 11:55 a.m., search and rescue technicians (SAR Techs) from the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) were dispatched to the rescue operations.However, the occupants were discovered dead when the RCAF SAR Techs arrived on the scene.

“While this is not the outcome we hoped for, we hope it brings closure to the family and friends…Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time,” stated Captain David Baird, a Searchmaster 1 with the RCAF’s Search and Rescue Region Trenton

“We would like to thank the local communities for their support, as well as those who contacted us with tips…We also thank members of the Royal Canadian Air Force, Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, Canadian Coast Guard, Ontario Provincial Police, Webequie First Nation, the Canadian Rangers and Civil Air Search and Rescue Association volunteers for their tireless efforts over the past few days,” Baird added further.

The identity of the victims, as well as the name of the airplane company, is yet to be released and the Transportation Safety Board is set to launch a probe into the cause of the crash, according to media reports.
