Police says pedestrian’s death in Toronto now being investigated as homicide

Incident of a pedestrian being fatally struck by a vehicle late late Monday night in downtown Toronto is now being investigated by the homicide squad, the Toronto Police said.

The collision, which was earlier said to be a hit-and-run, happened on Sherbourne Street, just north of Queen Street East, shortly before 11 p.m. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The vehicle, described as a silver sedan, fled the scene. The victim is yet to be identified.

In a post on the platform X, Toronto Police said that the homicide investigation is now in its preliminary stages and police are working to identify the victim and locate the vehicle.

Sherbourne Street remains closed in both directions from Queen to Shuter streets.

This is Toronto city’s 40th homicide of the year.
