Prominent kabaddi player, Nitu Kang shot and injured in targeted attack in Surrey, BC
On May 5th, Friday, around 8:06 a.m., the Surrey RCMP received a report of a shooting in a residential driveway situated in the 8100-block of 144A Street. After arriving on the scene, the police discovered a man with gunshot wounds and provided medical assistance until Emergency Health Services arrived. The victim, who has been identified on social media as Nitu Kang, a prominent kabaddi player and promoter, was taken to the hospital with severe injuries to his abdomen and leg.
An anonymous source reported that the victim was hit with six or seven shots. Fortunately, he is expected to survive the attack. About twenty-eight minutes after the shooting, the Surrey RCMP received a report of a vehicle fire at 125A Street and Colebrook Road.
The burning vehicle matched the description of the suspect’s vehicle seen leaving the scene of the shooting, but the police require further investigation to determine whether the two incidents are related.
The Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit has assumed responsibility for both cases and is currently gathering evidence. The motive behind the shooting is not yet clear, but it appears to be a targeted attack.
