Punjab Budget session to be held from March 1-15

Chandigarh: Punjab Vidhan Sabha’s Budget session will be held from March 1-15. The budget proposals for 2024-25 will be presented on March 5. The session will begin with an address by the governor, said Finance Minister Harpal Cheema. He was briefing the media after the cabinet meeting on Thursday.

He said this decision was taken at the meeting of the Punjab Cabinet here. The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Cheema said the AAP MLAs and leaders would hold camps at the borders of the state, where farmers are protesting. He said he also expressed his solidarity with the family of Shubhkaran Singh, who died on Wednesday.

He said that on November 23, 2023, Jaspal Singh, a volunteer of Punjab Home Guard, died at Sultanpur Lodhi, and the government would give Rs 1 crore aid to his family, as decided in the cabinet meeting.

To promote small industrial units, the Cabinet gave its nod for creation of a new MSME wing. All small enterprises will get aid from this wing. Punjab has the highest number of MSMEs, and they stand to benefit from this decision, said the Finance Minister.

The transfer policy for teachers has also been amended, so that the teachers working in state Education department do not face harassment. The Cabinet has also okayed the increase in monthly honorarium given to widows of war heroes from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 per month.

To fill the 612 posts of college lecturers, relaxation in age limit for applying for the job has been allowed. Now candidates up to the age of 45 years can apply for the jobs.
