Punjab Minister Urges Aviation Minister to Start Direct Flights to Canada, USA
Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Dhaliwal has urged Union Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia to add direct flights from Punjab to Canada and the US. Currently, there are no direct flights between the countries and according to Dhaliwal, this change would ensure huge benefits to a large number of travelers.
In a meeting with Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Union Minister of Civil Aviation, NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Dhaliwal handed over a memorandum demanding to add both Amritsar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, Mohali, for direct flight connectivity to Canada, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, and San Francisco. He said this change would ensure huge benefits to a large number of travelers.
Dhaliwal mentioned that there is a large number of Punjabis and Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) cardholders who have been living in Canada and USA. He also mentioned the recent bilateral air services agreement between India and Canada that excluded Amritsar and Mohali from the list of cities for direct flight operations. He stated that this would not only be of great benefit to Punjabis but also address the long pending issue of the people from the region.
According to Dhaliwal, Scindia assured him he would consider this demand on priority and work towards solving this issue.
