Punjab Vigilance Bureau Arrests Sub Inspector, Head Constable in Bribery Case
Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Sub Inspector Rachpal Singh and Head Constable Sukhjit Singh for allegedly extorting money through illegal confinement and accepting a bribe. They asked for a bribe from a mother whose son was in prison to let him go.
Rajwant Kaur, a resident of Fauji Colony, Randhirpur, in Sultanpur Lodhi, lodged a complaint on the Chief Minister’s anti-corruption action line. According to the complaint, Sub Inspector Rachpal Singh and Head Constable Sukhjit Singh demanded Rs. 2,50,000 as a bribe to release her son who was allegedly being illegally detained. The two parties then decided to strike a deal at Rs. 50,000.
After taking the Rs. 50,000 bribe, Rajwant Kaur’s son was released within 20 hours. The VB, upon investigation, found the two officers guilty of taking the bribe and arrested both of them. They were also charged with extorting money through illegal confinement from the complainant and others in the case.
A case has been registered under Sections 347, 389 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code, and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB police station in Jalandhar.
