The RCMP are looking into the issue after a passenger on a Flair Airlines flight from Edmonton to Vancouver reported receiving a “possible threat.”

A traveller aboard Flight 2799 from Edmonton to Vancouver received threatening messages on their phone and notified the authorities immediately, according to a statement by the Richmond RCMP.

The flight in question arrived at the Vancouver International Airport at 11:44 p.m. PST, and remained on the taxiway until 1 a.m., according to a statement by a YVR spokesperson, who added that passengers were not allowed to leave the plane until 2:15 a.m.

“All we can say is the communication was in electronic form…aboard aircraft there is very little communications such as cellular communications,” said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dennis Hwang.

“Threats or perceived threats, in any form, will be fully investigated. The safety of the flight crew, passengers, and the public will always be of paramount concern for us,” added Hwang.

“They took us to this far-flung area of the airport away from the terminal or any other planes. And then the captain came on the radio and said that there was a security threat,” a passenger aboard the flight reportedly stated to media outlets.
