Roshel Unveils the Senator MRAP: Cutting-Edge Armored Vehicle for Modern Defense Challenges

Roshel Smart Armored Vehicles, a leading manufacturer of armored solutions in North America and the largest supplier of armored vehicles to Ukraine during Russia’s invasion, has unveiled its latest product, the Senator MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected), at the CANSEC show in Ottawa. This highly anticipated addition to Roshel’s tactical vehicle lineup showcases the company’s commitment to providing state-of-the-art solutions for modern defense and security challenges. The Senator MRAP has successfully completed rigorous STANAG 4569 AEP 55 level 2 and level 2a/2b ballistic and blast tests conducted by a NATO-certified independent laboratory based in the United States.

Designed to withstand calibers up to 7.62×39mm API BZ at 30 meters with a velocity of 695 m/s, as well as a 6 kg explosive blast activated under any wheel and at the center, the Senator MRAP offers unparalleled levels of protection, mobility, and versatility. Its innovative V-shaped hull effectively deflects blasts away from the cabin, ensuring maximum crew survivability by dissipating explosive energy. The vehicle’s customizable layout and advanced engineering provide an ergonomic and adaptable workspace, guaranteeing optimal performance and operational efficiency. The MRAP is available in various configurations, including counter UAV, medical evacuation, and command and control (C2), catering to the unique demands of each mission.

Based on the reliable Ford F-550 heavy-duty commercial platform, the Senator MRAP is favored by combat teams for its ease of serviceability and maintenance. Leveraging the extensive service network of Ford vehicles worldwide, the Senator MRAP ensures efficient and accessible maintenance support. Despite its high level of ballistic and blast protection, the vehicle remains lightweight and responsive, thanks to innovative engineering and active protection systems. With its high ground clearance, four-wheel drive, and a powerful 6.7L turbo diesel engine, the Senator MRAP exhibits excellent off-road capabilities across diverse terrains.

Roman Shimonov, CEO of Roshel Smart Armored Vehicles, expressed excitement about the unveiling of the Senator MRAP at the CANSEC show, emphasizing the company’s commitment to innovation and addressing the evolving needs of modern security and defense forces. The successful ballistic and blast tests mark a significant milestone for Roshel as it continues to develop cutting-edge technology and deliver robust solutions that meet the demands of today’s challenging operational environments.

Roshel has been a leading supplier of armored vehicles to Ukraine, actively providing critical defense solutions to counter the escalating threats faced by Ukrainian forces. The development of the MRAP was driven by the urgent need for enhanced protection against improvised explosive devices (IEDs) prevalent in the region. With over 500 Roshel Senator armored vehicles already deployed in combat zones in Ukraine, the company has gained valuable insights into the specific challenges faced on the ground, resulting in the creation of the Senator MRAP as a reliable response to the evolving security landscape.

The Roshel Senator MRAP has successfully undergone rigorous blast testing by an independent NATO-certified laboratory, obtaining certification for level STANAG 4569 AEP 55 level 2a/2b. Throughout the comprehensive testing process, the vehicle showcased exceptional resilience and protection against explosive threats. Withstanding a detonation of 6 kg of TNT placed under both the wheel and the belly, the Senator MRAP demonstrated no structural damage and ensured the safety of the occupants represented by the dummy. Further testing is currently underway to achieve higher levels of protection.

At the CANSEC show, Roshel showcased an enhanced version of the Senator MRAP, integrating the Rheinmetall Fieldranger 0.50 cal weapon station. This collaboration between Roshel and Rheinmetall, a globally renowned defense technology company, amplifies the combat effectiveness and situational awareness

of the Senator MRAP. The Rheinmetall Fieldranger weapon station provides a state-of-the-art, fully stabilized, remote-controlled platform capable of mounting various weapon systems, including machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, and anti-tank guided missiles. Operators can safely engage targets from within the vehicle, reducing exposure to hostile fire and minimizing risks. With advanced sighting, targeting systems, and a 360-degree traverse capability, the Fieldranger empowers the Senator MRAP to effectively engage ground and aerial targets, bolstering its overall combat capability.
