Russian ambassador in Ottawa claimed Canada as an “extremely dangerous” place to travel for Russians.
Oleg Stepanov asserted that racism is a persistent problem in Canada and that the country continues to sanction individuals.
Stepanov stated, “I would not encourage (travelling to Canada) for tourism, education, or business,” in a Russian-language interview last Friday.
The Moscow travel advise for Canada merely cautions against street gangs and a “very tough atmosphere,” he continued, adding that most Canadians treat Russians well.
Stepanov asserted that there is a severe thaw in relations between Ottawa and Moscow and that Russia has been unable to establish a consulate in Vancouver.
