SYL concern: Chandigarh police hold BJP protestors outside the residence of the Punjab chief minister Chandigarh/ Beuro Sunil Jakhar, the state’s BJP president, said the Aam Aadmi Party will attempt to deceive people and divert attention from the matter, but his party will not permit water from Punjab to be used elsewhere.

Punjab BJP officials were detained by Chandigarh Police on Saturday when they demonstrated in front of Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann’s home over the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) Canal controversy. The Punjab government was protested by the BJP for not moving further with the canal’s construction. Sunil Jakhar, the president of the Punjab BJP, stated during a press conference earlier in the day that they would gherao the chief minister at his home. “I ask the Indian people to remain vigilant. We won’t allow water from Punjab to leave the province, despite the AAP’s best efforts to mislead the public and distract attention from the problem. We’ll gherao the home of CM Bhagwant Mann. The Punjab BJP will not permit them to use the state’s goals as a political pawn, he declared.
