Teenager Dead, Another in Hospital Following Shooting in Winnipeg
A 15-year-old male was killed in a shooting on Amherst Street, Winnipeg, on Monday and a 17-year-old was taken to the hospital. Police stated this is a case of accidental discharge of a firearm, but the exact details of the incident are unclear. The case is being investigated as a homicide.
The incident took place around 1 a.m. at the 200 block of Amherst Street, between Portage and Ness Avenue. Police responded to a report of a shooting in the area and found two teenagers shot. A 15-year-old was taken to a hospital in critical condition and died of his injuries. A 17-year-old was also taken to the hospital in unstable condition but was later declared stable.
Const. Dani McKinnon shared, “This wasn’t believed to be an accidental just discharge of a firearm. This is being investigated as a homicide.” It is unclear if the shooting took place on the street or in the house. There are no suspect descriptions and no arrests have been made yet. The investigators are speaking with all possible witnesses and all residents in that area, according to McKinnon.
