Punjab’s NRIs Affairs Minister, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, recently handed over the documents of a house in Patiala to former Canadian MP Nina Grewal and her family. The property had been illegally occupied for more than two and a half years. Dhaliwal highlighted that the Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is committed to resolving issues related to the Punjabi diaspora, including the protection of their properties. The house in Sewak Colony belonged to the family of late Nihal Singh Dhillon and had been under illegal possession. However, after legal proceedings were completed, the house was vacated within 48 hours and handed over to Nina Grewal and Parmvir Dhillon, the daughter-in-law of Nihal Singh Dhillon.

It is worth mentioning that Nina Grewal was the first Sikh woman member of parliament in Canada and her husband, Gurmant Grewal, was also an MP for three terms. Nina Grewal has served as an MP for four terms in Canada and her husband, Gurmant Singh Grewal, has served as an MP for three terms.

On this occasion, talking with media Cabinet Minister Kuldip Singh Dhaliwal has said that the Punjab government has launched a program called “Meeting with NRIs” to quickly and amicably resolve the issues and complaints of Punjabi NRIs (Non-Resident Indians) with the help of the NRIs themselves. He also informed that the government has released funds to upgrade 15 NRI police stations.

Former MP of Canada, Nina Grewal, thanked the Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann, Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, and district administration for their efforts to vacate her ancestral home and property.
