Three Mississauga, Brampton Teenagers Arrested for Armed Attempted Carjacking

Three teenagers from Mississauga and Brampton have been arrested for alleged armed attempted carjacking in Rexdale. The incident took place early Sunday morning and the three 15-year-old boys unsuccessfully tried to take a man’s keys as they pulled him out of his car. They were later arrested and charged.

Police responded to a report of a person with a gun at around 3:20 a.m. in the area of Rexdale and Humberwood boulevards. It was reported that three masked boys approached the victim as he entered his parked vehicle and demanded his keys. One of the boys took out a handgun as they pulled the victim out of his car and struck him over the head with the gun. They were unable to grab his keys, so they took off with some cash and lottery tickets.

Officers from 23 Division searched the area and were able to locate the three suspects. They were taken into custody in connection with the alleged robbery. They are all 15 years old and cannot be identified as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act. They have been charged with robbery with a firearm, conspiracy to commit and indictable offense, and disguise with intent.

The police stated that two of the boys are from Mississauga while the third is from Brampton.

Cases of carjacking have been on the rise, not just in Toronto but across Ontario. A Toronto Police Service’s Hold Up Squad – Car Jacking Task Force was put in place last fall to address these cases. Insp. Rich Harris spoke at a news conference last week and said, “Your safety far outweighs the value of the vehicle. The same applies with any robbery. We suggest that the victims comply with the demands. Commit what they’ve seen to memory can call the police at the earliest opportunity.”
