Top Army Officer Shoots Wife, then Himself in their Punjab Home

A top army officer shot his wife and then himself in their home in Punjab. The police found a suicide note and said the couple was going through domestic issues. An investigation is underway and the bodies have been sent to a hospital for post-mortem.

On Sunday night, Punjab police were informed of gunshots by some residents in an area of Ferozepur. The officers found a senior army officer and his wife, dead, in their home, according to Station House Officer, Ferozepur Cantt, Inspector Naveen Kumar. The victims have been identified as Lt Col Nishant and his wife Dimple. Their bodies were reportedly found in different rooms and there was also a suicide note left by Nishant.

In the note, Nishant reportedly confessed that he had taken this step due to domestic issues. A separate report states that his relatives pointed out he and his wife were receiving counseling for the differences they had developed over domestic issues.

Army authorities and the police have launched an investigation into the case. The bodies of the two deceased have been reportedly sent to a military hospital for post-mortem. Further details are awaited.

Recently, a Punjab Police constable was fatally shot in an altercation with masked robbers in the Phagwara region. He was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries where he was pronounced dead. An encounter reportedly took place between a police party and robbers escaping after snatching a car from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar on Dosanjh road. As the cops chased the car to confront the carjackers, the men reportedly opened fire from which Constable Singh sustained a bullet injury.
