Toronto Pearson International Airport is cautioning travelers about potential delays as scorching temperatures hit the region.
“We’re expecting it to be a sizzling day as Environment Canada’s heat warning says daytime highs are expected to reach 35 to 38 with the humidex,” read a statement shared on social media Monday morning.
In such extreme heat, the airport’s priority is the well-being of its outdoor workers. “In this heat, our safety focus is to provide adequate breaks to allow outdoor workers to stay cool. This means your plane could take longer than expected to reach the gate, or your luggage processing could be delayed,” the statement continued.

Additionally, flights from Pearson to Texas may face disruptions on Monday due to the impacts of Hurricane Beryl, which the airport is closely monitoring.
The heat warning from Environment Canada, issued on Sunday, predicts daytime highs nearing 31°C across multiple regions, including Toronto, Hamilton, Burlington-Oakville, Halton Hills-Milton, and Mississauga-Brampton. With the humidity, some areas could feel as hot as 35 to 38 degrees.
Environment Canada also mentioned that the relief from the heat would be minimal overnight, with lows expected to remain around 20°C or higher. The agency highlighted that vulnerable groups such as older adults, infants, young children, pregnant people, and those with physical, mental, or mobility challenges might face greater health risks in these conditions.
People are being urged to remain vigilant for signs of heat-related illnesses, including swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and the exacerbation of preexisting health issues.
As the heatwave continues, travelers are advised to stay hydrated, take necessary precautions, and allow extra time for travel to accommodate potential delays.
