Two Arrested for Recent Rs. 22 Lakh Punjab National Bank Robbery in Amritsar
Two men accused in the recent Punjab National Bank robbery have been arrested. The duo, who robbed the bank branch for Rs. 22 lakh, are from Amritsar and along with the money, the police recovered a pistol, a revolver, 20 bullets, a scooter, and a car used in the crime.
Laljit Singh of Mehniya Loharan village in Kathunangal and Gagandeep Singh of Rishi Vihar of Majitha Road in Amritsar are the two accused who have been arrested from their houses after being produced in court. Laljit is a farmer and Gagandeep is a graduate, both of whom did not have any previous criminal record, according to Police Commissioner Jaskaran Singh.
On February 16, two armed men robbed the Rani Masi Bagh branch of the Punjab National Bank for Rs. 22 lakh. They fled the scene within minutes, according to media reports. The incident reportedly occurred around 12:15 pm at the Amritsar Cantt branch of the bank wherein one of the men supposedly barged into the bank while the other stood outside with a pistol waiting on the scooter, according to media reports.
The reports also stated that there were no guards at the branch. At the time, authorities said they were trying to identify the two men through the CCTV footage.
Ten police teams were involved in the arrests as they tracked the duo based on technical inputs. Rs. 12 lakh was recovered from Laljit and Rs. 10 lakh from Gagandeep. Along with the money, the police also recovered a pistol, a revolver, 20 bullets, a scooter, and a car used in the crime. Both guns were licensed.
