Two Edmonton Police Officers Killed While Responding to Domestic Dispute
Two Edmonton police officers were fatally shot early Thursday morning as they responded to a domestic dispute. Exact details about the incident are unclear but according to sources, the male suspect is dead. Various officials have shared their condolences for the two officers on Twitter.
Edmonton Police Service confirmed that two officers were killed while responding to a domestic dispute. Details about the call have not been revealed yet. The incident took place just east of Groat Road, near the Baywood Apartments, northwest of central Edmonton. Several police vehicles were present at the scene as the area stretching between 114 and 111 avenues and 132 Street was cornered off.
According to the neighbors in the area, the police arrived at around 1 a.m. Further details about the case are awaited.
The president of the Vancouver police union shared condolences on Twitter saying, “Our hearts are broken as we hear news of the murder of two @edmontonpolice officers @YEGPA last night. On behalf of all our members of the BC Police Association, we send our heartfelt condolences. Our thoughts and prayers are with all family, friends, and colleagues. #herosinlife.”
Halton Police also shared condolences and said, “Tragic news out of Edmonton this morning that two officers have been killed in the line of duty. Our Service extends its deepest condolences to the Edmonton Police Service, the officers’ families, and all those impacted by their senseless loss.”
This is the first time after June 2015 that an Edmonton police officer has been killed. On June 8, 2015, Const. Daniel Woodall was killed while attempting to make an arrest at a home in west Edmonton.
