Two People Rescued From Rubble After Massive East Ottawa Explosion

A huge explosion at an east Ottawa construction site resulted in two people being trapped under debris and another four being hospitalized. Emergency crews rescued two individuals and shared that a gas leak for responsible for the explosion. Doorbell cameras of houses nearby caught the explosion on video.

A new development on Tenth Line Road near Harvest Valley Avenue in Orléans was turned into rubble after a massive explosion rocked the area. Caused by a gas leak, the explosion occurred at 6:18 a.m. and took out several homes under construction at a Minto development. Windows of nearby homes were destroyed, and bits of insulation were scattered into the streets. The blast was heard by residents several kilometers away heard.

Emergency services responded at the scene and rescued two people from the rubble. Four more were hospitalized, and two of them were children. A total of 11 people were injured according to officials and none of them suffered life-threatening injuries.

Coun. Catherine Kitts, who represents the area, said, “This is an incredibly distressing event for people in the east end. It was felt widely, especially for those in close proximity to where the blast occurred.” Four homes located at 305, 307, 309, and 311 Blossom Pass Terrace were impacted by the explosion. As a precaution, emergency crews have evacuated residents in about a 300-meter radius.

The police has informed that OC Transpo has been asked to dispatch buses to help those affected.
