US: 23-year-old Indian-origin student dies after being hit by police vehicle

According to a statement by the Seattle Police, a 23-year-old Indian-origin woman died in South Lake Union on Monday after being hit by a Seattle police patrol vehicle.

The deceased pedestrian, identified as Jaahnavi Kandula, was a native of the Kurnool Dist of Andhra Pradesh, according to media reports.

The officer driving the police vehicle was heading north on Dexter Avenue North when responding with Seattle Fire Department to a “priority one call”, according to the Seattle Police Department. Kandula was crossing the crosswalk east to west at the time of the incident, the Seattle Police department added in the statement.

After the police arrived at the site of the collision at around 8 pm, they performed CPR on the 23-year-old while awaiting the fire department. The deceased was taken to the Harborview Medical Center after sustaining severe injuries after a collision with a Seattle Police vehicle on Monday night. While receiving medical care at the Centre, the 23-year-old reportedly succumbed to her injuries, according to media reports.

A student at the Northeastern University campus in South Lake Union, Kandula was pursuing a master’s in information systems, with the 23-year-old scheduled to graduate in December.
