US citizen PAU Alumnus donates 37.5 lakhs to PAU to award scholarship

US citizen Gurcharan Singh Dhillon, an alumnus of the College of Agriculture, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has donated Rs 37.5 lakh to the University to establish a fund to award “Sardar Gajjan Singh and Mata Sant Kaur Dhillon Memorial Scholarship” in the memory of his revered parents.
Six scholarships will be awarded to B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture students with rural backgrounds belonging to low-income families.
Dhillon, originally from the village Kothe Gajjan Singh Wale near Kot Kapura, district Faridkot, is now a resident of the USA. He retired from the USDA as Regional Director.
Dhillon and his wife Nancy Dhillon visited PAU, Ludhiana, and handed over the cheque to the Vice-Chancellor Dr Satbir Singh Gosal.Dr Gosal appreciated the Dhillon family for their philanthropic gesture and stressed upon the need to strengthen the alumni linkages.
Dr CS Aulakh, Professor of Agronomy, welcomed the donors, while Dr RK Dhaliwal, Dean, College of Agriculture, proposed a vote of thanks. Dr Shammi Kapoor, Comptroller, PAU was also present on the occasion.
