Video Footage Shows Suspect in Hamilton Home Fire That Briefly Trapped Family with Young Child

Police has released footage from the night of the Hamilton home fire that trapped a family with a child inside. The video shows a man walking up to the house at night wearing a head-mounted light. The police is searching for the suspect who has been described to be white, with a medium build. On February 13, a fire broke out at a multi-unit home on Sanford Avenue and Main Street East just before 10 p.m. A family with a young child was trapped inside as they could not exit the house from the front. They instead had to jump out of the second-floor window with the child. Members of the family sustained injuries, according to the police.

Now, video footage from the night has been released by the police. It shows a man walking up to the house and turning on his head-mounted light. He can be seen walking up the porch after which he goes out of view. While the video ends shortly after with no flames to be seen, the police said the suspect was “captured on video setting the fire.”

The suspect has been described as a white male with a medium build. He was last seen wearing dark pants, a dark jacket, a dark toque, and a headlamp. The police said in a news release that the accused should seek legal counsel and turn himself in. The face of the accused cannot be seen clearly in the footage. The reason for the act is currently unknown.
