Weapon Seen at Caledon School; Placed Under Lockdown

Police warned locals to stay away from the area and forcibly barred access to the school and property.

After a weapon was allegedly seen at the school in Caledon, the building was placed on lockdown, and one person was taken into custody.

On Monday morning (Jan. 25), just after 9:30 a.m., officers from the Caledon OPP detachment were called to Humberview Secondary School in Caledon for a complaint of a possible weapon in the building, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.

Police said there was no threat to public safety and provided a photo from the scene showing at least four police cars parked outside the school. Police warned locals to stay away from the area and forcibly barred access to the school and property.

What prompted the lockdown at the school has not been made public by the OPP. Just before 11:30 a.m., according to police, the lockdown was lifted and one person was taken into custody. Police withheld any details on the person. The event marked the second lockdown at a high school in the Peel Region in as many days.
