Police authorities took action by placing a number of schools in Brampton on hold-and-secure orders today in response to a concerning incident involving an individual with a firearm at a local grocery store. The incident occurred near Cottrelle Blvd. and Hwy 50 in Brampton at around 2:30 p.m. on Friday (May 19). According to Peel Regional Police, a man entered the store and made a claim of being armed.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident. However, the individual managed to flee from the store, absconding with an undisclosed amount of property. In an abundance of caution, the police promptly initiated hold-and-secure protocols for schools in the surrounding area. These precautionary measures were, fortunately, lifted shortly thereafter.

Authorities have provided a description of the suspect as a male in his late 20s, characterized by shoulder-length hair. At the time of the incident, he was observed wearing a black baseball cap and carrying a brown bag.
