The recently announced official name for Brampton Civic Hospital’s south tower is the Bikram S. Dhillon and Family South Tower. This name is in honor of Bikram S. Dhillon, the CEO of BVD Group, a family-owned Brampton firm that serves the North American trucking industry. Last summer, Mr. Dhillon generously donated $10 million to the William Osler Health Network, prompting the renaming of the south tower.

Ken Mayhew, the President and CEO of William Osler Health System Foundation, expressed gratitude for the transformative donation from BVD Group, highlighting its significance beyond its monetary value. He emphasized that it symbolizes a profound dedication to enhancing the health and well-being of the community. With the south tower now bearing the Dhillon family name, it stands as a lasting testament to their commitment to fostering healthier communities.

In April, Bikram Dhillon, along with his wife Varinder and their children, attended the official naming ceremony at the hospital. Mayor Patrick Brampton and several leaders from Osler and Osler Foundation were also present. Bikram Dhillon shared that all four of his children and nine grandchildren were born in Osler hospitals, making this legacy of supporting world-class healthcare deeply meaningful to their family. He expressed hope that their gift would inspire others to contribute to the hospitals in any way they could, emphasizing that there is no better time to give.

The donation from BVD Group arrived at a pivotal moment for Osler, as it continues to navigate a transformative phase of healthcare in Brampton. The city has long been underserved due to having only one hospital. However, plans are underway to address this issue with the development of the Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness, which will become Brampton’s new hospital. The expansion plans include a multi-storey patient tower with 250 inpatient beds and room for future growth, new outpatient services and day programs, and a second 24/7 full Emergency Department in Brampton.
