Brampton Woman Arrested in Big Auto Crime Scene, Exploited ServiceOntario’s Loopholes

On March 7, 2024 24-year-old Milton Hylton was arrested and charged with 168 auto crime offenses by the Peel Regional Police. On March 19, 2024, a Brampton woman was arrested by the Peel Regional Police.

The Police further disclosed the apprehension of the suspect, asserting her involvement as an accomplice in an operation involving an unlicensed car dealer and broker, facilitating the sale and transfer of vehicles.

The 25-year-old Monifa Taffe-Hylton of Brampton is identified as the sister of the Peel man who was arrested on March 7. She is now facing 36 charges of Uttering Forged Documents and Trafficking of Stolen Goods.

Police reported that from June 2023 to early 2024, a 24-year old man, in collaboration with the accomplices, executed numerous fraudulent transactions utilizing the Ministry of Transportation and ServiceOntario facilities across the province, involving over 100 vehicles.

“Investigators believe the suspects utilized loopholes in the ServiceOntario procedures that allow ‘authorized’ individuals to conduct third-party transactions to register a vehicle,” said Peel Regional Police in a media release.

“Several vehicles that were illegally registered have been identified as re-vin vehicles,” says police.

The victims whose vehicles were registered under their name without authorization were contacted by the police officials.

“This is a large-scale crime affecting many vehicles in multiple jurisdictions across Ontario. Investigators are appealing to the public for assistance in locating additional victims and vehicles,” said Peel police.
