CBI arrests Jalandhar Regional Passport Officer Anup Singh, 2 others in bribery case

Jalandhar: The CBI has arrested Jalandhar Regional Passport Officer Anup Singh and two of his colleagues for allegedly receiving bribe to issue a passport, officials said on Friday.

“It was alleged that the complainant had applied for fresh passports in respect of his granddaughter and grandson. When the complainant met the accused APO to check the status of the said two passports, he allegedly demanded Rs 25,000 for the issuance of the passports. The accused told the complainant that the bribe was being accepted on the directions of RPO and another APO, and it would be shared among them, the officials said.

The CBI apprehended the accused while accepting the bribe. Searches are being conducted at residential and office premises of the accused. Over Rs 20 lakh cash and incriminating documents have been seized. The investigation is under way. The accused have been identified as RPO Anup Singh, APOs Hari Om and Sanjay Srivastava.
