A tragic shooting late Wednesday night in Mississauga has left one man dead and another with life-threatening injuries, according to Peel Regional Police.

Authorities responded to a call shortly after 11 p.m. reporting a shooting in the parking lot of Settler’s Green Public School, located near Montevideo Road and Lorca Crescent. Upon arrival, officers discovered two males with gunshot wounds. The victims were immediately transported to the hospital.

Investigations revealed that the shooting stemmed from an altercation involving the two victims and an “unknown number of suspects.” One of the victims, a man in his 40s, succumbed to his injuries. The second victim, believed to be under 20, remains in critical condition.

Peel police stated, “We’re still working on appropriate notification so we cannot confirm whether or not to say it’s a young person or an adult.”

The school emphasized that the incident was unrelated to school activities. “Police are in our parking lot today to investigate a community incident that is not related to our school,” the notice read.

Police have stated that officers will continue to investigate at the scene throughout the day.
