During the summer of the previous year, Mulroney’s family had conveyed that he was showing continuous improvement following a heart procedure. This procedure came after he underwent treatment for prostate cancer in early 2023.

Brian Mulroney, who led the Progressive Conservative party, achieved a historic feat by securing the largest majority mandate in 1984. Despite entering the position with overwhelming support, he departed with the dubious distinction of holding the lowest approval rating in the history of polling.

It is noteworthy that Mulroney resided in Montreal.
