Freezing rain may affect flights at Pearson Airport

Utility outages may occur in isolated areas.

It is advised for passengers wanting to depart from Pearson Airport in Mississauga today (Feb. 9) to check their flights in advance since freezing rain and other weather conditions may affect departure times.

In a social media message this morning, Pearson Airport officials warned travellers to “be careful as freezing rain is in the forecast for southern Ontario, creating for hazardous road conditions and visibility.”

Additionally, “as always, verify with your airline before leaving for the airport,” they advised travellers.

The weather “may impair operations” at the airport, according to a tweet from Pearson last night.
For Mississauga, Brampton, Burlington, and Oakville, Environment Canada has issued a statement warning of significant rainfall and wind gusts.

Today is the start of the muddy mix, and there will be periods of really heavy rain. 15 to 25 mm of total precipitation and winds out of the southwest with gusts of 70 to 90 km/h are predicted.

The weather alert also warns of the possibility of freezing rain.
