According to Toronto Fire, a two-alarm fire broke out Saturday at a high-rise apartment complex in Scarborough, resulting in one death and four hospitalizations.

The fire started just before 3:30 p.m. on the fifth story of the said apartment complex at the intersection of Kingston Road and Lawrence Avenue, according to the police. Authorities discovered a number of persons inside the ablaze highrise apartment building, one of whom eventually passed away, stated Toronto Fire Chief Matthew Pegg, adding that the firefighters successfully saved four more persons.

Toronto Paramedic Services rushed all four injured people to the hospital, Fire Chief Pegg stated further.

“The most recent information that I have is that two of those four are listed in critical condition. The other two are listed in serious but non-life-threatening condition,” Pegg detailed further, adding that the fire has been put out.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, according to the police.
