In relation to a drive-by shooting that occurred outside the Weston Collegiate Institute, near Jane Street and Lawrence Avenue, on Thursday, Police arrested two 17-year-old boys on Friday after an arrest warrant was issued in the Peel Region.

The alleged shooting occurred shortly after noon in the parking lot of the Toronto High School and left a 15-year-old Grade 10 student with multiple gunshot injuries in his “upper chest area”, according to the police.

Both the suspects are facing 10 charges each, including attempted murder, media outlets report.

The victim had just stepped out of the school when two males in a stolen Hyundai Elantra arrived at the parking lot and shot at him. He then rushed back inside again the school to seek help and was later taken to the hospital, where he is said to be in critical but stable condition, according to media reports.

“At this time it is alleged that the driver shot the victim multiple times from the vehicle…The suspects fled and the suspect vehicle was later located in Peel Region. It was later learned by investigators that this vehicle had been stolen via carjacking earlier in the day,” Inspector Norm Proctor detailed in a press conference on Friday.

“The investigation is early and we are still working on a lot of information…The only information I can release at this time is that the young victim walked out into the parking lot and was then shot by the suspects, specifically one suspect. I don’t know if there was any interactions prior or if they are known (to one another). I have no idea,” Insp. Norm Proctor added.

The investigators are still trying to ascertain whether there was a prior relationship between the suspects and the 15-year-old victim, Inspector Proctor said. Neither of the suspects attended the aforementioned school as students, he added.

An hours-long warrant was imposed in the high school following the shooting. Classes at the high school resumed Friday, according to media outlets.
