On Thursday afternoon, gun was fired in the washroom of a Toronto high school, slightly injuring the worker.

On Thursday afternoon, gun was fired in the washroom of a Toronto high school, slightly injuring the worker.

The police informed that they were called to East York Alternative Secondary School located on 670 Cosburn Ave at around 1:10 p.m.

Toronto police informed that a fight broke out in the washroom of the school, following which, the gun was fired, injuring the outreach worker who was trying to stop the fight. The was put under a lockdown, which was soon lifted.

Spokeperson of Toronto police services, Acting Insp. Jason Albanese said, “officers determined that one bullet was fired into the ground, that bullet ricocheted off the wall and a projectile from the ricochet hit the worker’s shoe.”

Albanese further informed that six people were involved in the fight out of which, out of which, some are students at school. He said, “We believe we know who was involved. We are just trying to piece together what their respective roles were in this incident.”

The weapon has not been recovered yet.

Spokesperson for the Toronto District School Boardsaid, “We are very happy that everyone is okay after this incident this afternoon. We are going to make sure that we are supporting our students and staff here, whether it be through our professional support services staff, making sure that tomorrow they’re on site for anyone that wants to talk about this.”
