Hyderabad Woman Found Starving on Streets of US, Indian Consulate Comes to Rescue

The Indian Consulate General in Chicago, USA, extended medical and travel assistance to the Hyderabad woman named Syeda Zaidi who was discovered starving on the streets last week.

The CGI Chicago confirmed that they have been able to contact Syeda Zaidi and have offered medical assistance and travel to India. “Happy that we could contact Ms. Syeda Zaidi & offered help, including medical assistance & travel to India. She is fit & spoken to her mother in India. She is yet to respond on our offer of support to return to India. We stand ready to extend to her all assistance”, said the tweet.

One week ago, Syeda Lulu Minhaj Zaidi, who had traveled to the US to pursue a master’s degree, was discovered in a starving condition on the streets of Chicago. A subsequent investigation uncovered that all her belongings had been stolen and that she was suffering from depression.

Amjed Ullah Khan, the spokesperson of Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), a Telangana-based party, brought attention to her plight, highlighting her condition.

Once her distressing situation came to light, Syeda Wahaj Fatima, her mother, promptly wrote to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, urgently requesting his intervention to facilitate the immediate return of her daughter.
