Immigration Minister Marc Miller Office Vandalized Amid Pro-Palestinian Protests

Montreal police are investigating a vandalism incident at the office of Immigration Minister Marc Miller in the Sud-Ouest borough. The incident, discovered Thursday morning by a passerby, involved smashed windows and pink paint sprayed across the building’s front, according to reports from the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).

Authorities believe the vandalism occurred Wednesday night and may be linked to recent pro-Palestinian demonstrations in the area. The building on Saint-Jacques Street, near Atwater Avenue, saw protests earlier in the week, with vandals reportedly writing “Marc Miller, child killer” on both the building and sidewalk.

Marc Miller, who serves as both a Liberal MP and immigration minister, denounced the act as “a criminal act, which I absolutely condemn,” ensuring the safety of his team despite the property damage.

Federal Tourism Minister Soraya Martinez Ferrrada also expressed solidarity, stating, “Violence has no place in politics,” and extending sympathy to Miller and his staff affected by the incident.

Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet echoed similar sentiments, condemning the vandalism as “totally unacceptable” and emphasizing peaceful means of expression in democracy.

Police officials confirmed no arrests have been made yet and investigations are ongoing to identify the perpetrators behind the vandalism.

The incident marks a concerning escalation amid ongoing tensions surrounding political protests, underscoring the need for respectful dialogue in democratic engagement.
